#13. Grossinger’s Catskill Resort – Liberty, New York

Back in the 1950’s, the Grossinger’s Catskill Resort was a seasonal retreat for wealthy families. It flourished with people from all over the U.S. during the summer months. The main attraction was its two massive swimming pools that were located in the middle of a 1,200-acre lush surrounding. It served over 100,000 people before closing down in the mid 1980’s. Most of the resort is covered by moss and ferns and a few parts have been vandalized by trespassers.




#14. KiMo Theater – Albuquerque, New Mexico

Opened on September 19, 1927, by a man named Oreste Bachechi, KiMo Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico is believed to be haunted by the ghost of a six year old boy named Bobby Darnall. A boiler explosion in the basement claimed the life of Bobby. Cast and crew of the theater have explained that numerous instances have occurred where his ghost would pull something off to sabotage their performances. In order to appease his spirit, they would leave doughnuts for him before each show.

#15. Pittock Mansion – Portland, Oregon

Located in the West Hills of Portland, Oregon, the mansion was originally built in 1909. Henry and Georgiana Pittock built their dream home, where they would spend the rest of their lives happily. But tragedy struck them just a few years after moving in. The couple passed away and left the 46-room estate in total darkness. Visitors claim that the mansion is haunted by their spirits as Henry’s picture constantly moves from the walls. They also explain about the smell of roses in the rooms, which was Georgiana’s favorite flower. What makes it even scarier is the fact that there are no rose plants on the estate.




#16. Oakwood Cemetery –  Spartanburg, South Carolina

The Oakwood Cemetery located in Spartanburg, South Carolina is also known as “Hell’s Gate”. It is known as one of the most haunted places in South Carolina. The cemetery is well known for paranormal activities. Visitors explain that fully charged cameras and cell phones go dead within minutes of entering Hell’s Gate. Even paranormal enthusiasts and ghost hunters have explained that their equipment malfunctions in this location.

#17. Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum – Weston, West Virginia

Constructed using the Kirkbride Plan, the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum operated from 1864 until 1994. Architect Richard Andrews designed the building in such a way that maximum light and fresh air would be available to its patients. It was originally designed to house 250 patients and rejuvenate them with the calm environment but when it started operating in 1864, the building was housed 2,400 patients. Most of the patients underwent inhumane treatments such as being electrocuted. Since the experiments were not showing any progress in the patients, it was forced to shut down in 1994. The crumbling building is said to be haunted by the ones who died within the asylum. Ghost hunters and visitors have claimed to see shadowy figures in the building.

#18. Union Cemetery – Easton, Connecticut

The Union Cemetery in Easton, Connecticut has a reputation for being one of the most haunted places in Connecticut. The cemetery was established back in the 1700’s and according to some ghost hunters, this is one of the “most haunted” cemeteries in the United States. According to the locals, the cemetery is believed to be haunted by a “White Lady”, referring to the long white dress she is seen wearing. Rumors say that the ghost of this sad mother walks through the cemetery and haunts the visitors.
