The last active Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt, Cleopatra, was born in 69 B.C. and died in 30 B.C.. Meanwhile, the construction of the pyramids of Giza took place around 2550 B.C. to 2490 B.C.. 13. The wooly mammoths were alive during the construction of the pyramids.

Scientific analysis of tusks, bones and teeth recovered from Wrangel Island, indicate that a small number of the wooly mammoth species survived until 1650 BCE. Wrangel Island, an uninhabited scrap of land, is roughly the size of Delaware. The bones and other fossils retrieved estimate that a steady population of 500 to 1,000 mammoths endured this island. Though most of the mammoth population died long before civilization arose, this group managed to survive on islands in Alaska and Russia. By 1650 B.C., Egypt was halfway through its empire and the Giza Pyramids were 1,000 years old. The exact cause behind their extinction is unknown but British and Swedish researchers are studying the circumstances surrounding it.
