There are a few things that the popular series Game of Thrones and Harry Potter have in common. Both take place in imaginary worlds, have fire breathing dragons in them and everyone is trying to fight evil. There’s also another thing that both the series have in common – the actors. Although most of us failed to recognize that some of our favorite actors from GOT were in fact in the HP series. Here, we have collected details about 10 actors who first fought Voldemort and then the White Walkers.
1. Michelle Fairley
Harry Potter: In Harry Potter and the DH– Part 1, Michelle Fairley made a brief but memorable appearance where she played Hermione’s mother, Mrs. Granger. In the beginning of the movie, Hermione informs Harry and Ron that she modified her parents’ memories. The decision, although hard for her, was taken as a measure to protect them from Voldemort.
Game of Thrones: In the popular HBO series, Michelle Fairley played the iconic Catelyn Stark, the Lady of Winterfell. Fairley played the role for three long seasons before her character was Red Wedding-ed. Although the books suggest that the character was resurrected, the show still hasn’t given any such hints.
2. Natalia Tena
Harry Potter: The British actor is known for her role in Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, DH: Part 2 (2011), and the DH: Part 1 (2010), where she played the role of Auror Nymphadora Tonks. Tonks was one of those fun, yet slightly immature characters that are entertaining to watch. If you don’t remember who Tonks is, she’s the one who married Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Remus Lupin (David Thewlis). Despite having very few lines and appearances, she managed to gather a huge fan base with her acting skills.
Game of Thrones: In the popular HBO series, Tena played Osha, the wildling woman-turned-scullery maid who helps Bran and Rickon escape after Theon Greyjoy captures Winterfell in season 2. Osha traveled with and watched over Rickon Stark, towards the end of season 6.
3. David Bradley
Harry Potter: After reading the first Harry Potter novels, actor David Bradley asked his kids what part they would choose for him, if he was ever cast in the film. ‘They said I was a natural for Filch,’ he recalls with a smile, ‘and I thought, is that how my kids see me? This horrible, greasy, odious, vicious man? Isn’t that nice’. To their surprise, Bradley was asked to audition for the role, and ‘they were on the ceiling when my agent called and said I was cast’. Since then, Bradley played the iconic role of Argus Filch, the caretaker who appeared in seven of the eight Harry Potter movies. Argus Filch is best known for his devotion to his cat, Mrs. Norris.
Game of Thrones: In GOT, Bradley played the tyrannical Lord Walder Frey, who appeared in the first, third, and sixth seasons. The head of House Frey was also responsible for the Red Wedding.
4. Ciarán Hinds
Harry Potter: The Irish actor portrayed Albus Dumbledore’s brother, Aberforth Dumbledore, in Harry Potter and the DH (Part II). Although his appearances were brief compared to other characters, Aberforth Dumbledore played an instrumental role in helping Harry, Ron, and Hermione find a secret passage into Hogwarts.
Game of Thrones: Hinds played the iconic role of Mance Rayder in GOT, who was the King beyond the Wall. He appeared in seasons 3, 4, and 5 before being defeated by Stannis Baratheon.
5. Freddie Stroma
Harry Potter: In the final three Harry Potter films, Freddie Stroma appeared as Cormac McLaggen, who has a long-standing rivalry with Harry. The fellow Gryffindor and Quidditch master is believed to be angry at Harry for possibly owing to his crush on Hermione.
Game of Thrones: Although he played a major role in the HP series, Stroma played a small role in the GOT series, acting as Samwell Tarly’s younger brother. So far, he has only appeared once on the screen, throughout the entire series.
6. Bronson Webb
Harry Potter: The British actor has made an appearance as one of the Joker’s goons in The Dark Knight and as the “Slytherin Boy” in the Prisoner of Azkaban where he appears as one of the members of Draco Malfoy’s gang.
Game of Thrones: Webb played the role of Will, the Night’s Watch ranger, who went beyond the Wall with a search party. He is also the first person to report the existence of White Walkers in a long time, but sadly, no one believes him. However, his role was short and was limited to the pilot episode.
7. Ralph Ineson
Harry Potter: Actor Ralph Ineson appeared as Amycus Carrow in the final three Potter movies. His appearances weren’t that promising, but was the dark wizard and brother of Alecto Carrow.
Game of Thrones: He portrayed Dagmer in Game of Thrones, appearing in five episodes of season two. Ironborn raider Dagmer Cleftjaw was an ally of Theon Greyjoy and was noted for his skill in battle and his loyalty to House Greyjoy.
8. Julian Glover
Harry Potter: The British actor with English, Scottish and Welsh ancestry didn’t actually appear on screen but was the impressionist and voice behind the giant spider Aragog, who was responsible for proving Hagrid’s innocence.
Game of Thrones: In the drama series, Julian Glover plays the role of Grand Maester Pycelle, who appears in all six seasons. Pycelle, who was a member of the small council, was also a spy for Cersei Lannister. In order to make himself look weak among others, Pycelle acts frail but is actually strong in both his mind and body.
9. Sally Mortemore
Harry Potter: At Hogwarts’s, Sally Mortemore played the role of librarian Madame Irma Pince. The head of the library briefly appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and also in the background throughout several others.
